What is Reddit
Reddit is a popular social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website often called "the front page of the internet". It consists of thousands of user-created, niche communities called "subreddits," covering topics from news and technology to entertainment and hobbies. Users (redditors) submit content, including links, text, images, and videos, which others vote up or down to determine visibility.
- Subreddits: These are subcommunities designated by the "r/" prefix (e.g., r/science, r/gaming). Each has its own rules, moderators, and, usually, a specific topic.
- Voting System: Posts and comments are ranked by community votes (upvotes/downvotes). High-quality or popular content rises to the top, while low-quality content sinks.
- Karma: A reputation score earned through upvotes on your posts and comments.
- Anonymity: Users typically use usernames rather than real names, fostering open discussion.
- Content Types: Users can post text ("self-posts"), links to external websites, images, videos, or polls.
